Agriculture in Kenya is the mainstay of the Kenyan economy, contributing 23 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generates 60 per cent of total foreign exchange earnings.

To mitigate the challenge of adverse weather, the government of Kenya allocates substantial amount of money to the sector to revive irrigation schemes and establish new one.

The Ministry of Agriculture is mandated to promote and facilitate production of food and agricultural raw materials, boost agro-based industries and exports and enhance sustainable use of land resources.
