Harun Mwau
John Harun Mwau (born June 24, 1948) is an Kenyan business magnate, philanthropist, Motivator. He is consistently ranked among the Kenya’s wealthiest people. The flamboyant Member of Parliament for Kilome constituency in Ukambani, burst into politics in 1992 in style.
In his usual style, Harun Mwau donated all his salary and allowances to his constituency development kitty, took up payment of school fees for 263 students and donated 300 motor cycles to youth in the constituency to start transport businesses. The motor cycles are said to have cost him Shs 27 million ($300,000).
And that was not all. In his constituency Harun Mwau has introduced the Kilome Rural Electrification Programme where he is said to have sunk Shs 100million for electrification of all the public utility areas in Kilome: churches, hospitals, schools and shopping centers.
Once, in a controversial move,Harun Mwau sponsored all the councilors from Ukambani to Dubai, ostensibly to see how dry lands were being managed. The trip to Dubai and allowances are said to have cost him more than Shs 100 million.
