Ministry of Labour in Kenya

Ministry of Labour in Kenya: The Ministry of East African Community (EAC), Labour and Social Protection was formed as a result of re-organization of Government in May, 2013. The Ministry is a combination of the former Ministry of Labour and part of the former Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development. These two former ministries have existed in various forms since independence in 1963.

The Presidential Circular No. 2 of 2013 which effectively constituted the re-organized government placed the following departments under the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), Labour and Social Protection:

  1. The Department of Labour
  2. Office of the Registrar of Trade Unions
  3. Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS)
  4. Department of Children Services
  5. Department of Social Development
  6. Social Protection Secretariat
  7. National Employment Bureau (NEB)
  8. Productivity Centre of Kenya (PCK)
  9. The Directorate of National Human Resource Planning and Development

Others Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) under the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), Labour and Social Protection include:

  1. The National Industrial Training Authority (NITA)
  2. National Council for Persons With Disability (NCPWD)
  3. National Council for Children Services

The only Autonomous Government Agency (AGA) under the Ministry of East African Community (EAC), Labour and Social Protection is the:

  1. The National Social Security Fund (NSSF)

Formulation, review and implementation of Social Security, employment, programme for persons with disabilities, national human resource planning and development, national labour productivity, Child Labour and regulation management, Facilitating and Tracking Employment creation,Co-ordination of National employment,Internship and Volunteers for public service,Community Development, Protection and advocacy of needs of Persons with Disabilities, Social Assistance programmes,Workplace Inspection and Workman’s Compensation.
