Moses Kuria Biography
Moses Kuria was born in 1971. He is a Kenyan politician and a Member of Parliament for Gatundu South constituency,Kiambu county. He is a member of The National Alliance and a coalition member of Jubilee Alliance.
Moses Kuria won the Gatundu by election without an election. The unprecedented decision was made following the withdrawal of the only challenger, Joachim Kamere, of the New Democrats Party.
Gatundu South’s new MP Moses Kuria is like a double edged sword. He cuts from both sides. In both Jubilee and Cord coalitions, he evokes mixed emotions. To Cord leader Raila Odinga’s loyalists, he is tribal chauvinist, a loose cannon and an irritant. To President Kenyatta’s Jubilee sympathisers, he is a defender of the “tribe” and a retaliatory asset to whatever is hurled at Mr Kenyatta.
In decorum terms, he would pass as “below average’, if you ask decent, intellectual figures. In boardrooms, he likes meetings short. If hitting out at something or someone, he goes directly for the jugular—no room for innuendos. In short, you get to know exactly what he is saying.

Moses Kuria Political Career
An admirer of former President Kibaki, Kuria would return to Kenya from Dubai in 2007 just to help “my good capitalist role model”.
“I liked Kibaki’s economic philosophy. In Dubai, I would read how besieged he was and I thought, even if he was to lose, he should never lose to a socialist,” he says and breaks into mirthless laughter.

He joined the Kibaki team through Mr Kenyatta’s Kanu party. For five years, Moses Kuria and another team of backroom political wheeler dealers would plot Kibaki’s succession game plan with Mr Kenyatta in mind.
In fact, he was key in plotting for massive registration of voters in Mr Kenyatta’s strongholds knowing when the full list came out, it would be difficult for Mr Kenyatta to play second fiddle to anyone.
“Our foresight was that politicians would make noise and when voter registration was closed, they would realise they had no real numbers eligible to vote. That is how Jubilee’s ‘tyranny of numbers’ was born,” reveals Mr Moses Kuria.
So, is he a tribalist? “Ha ha ha. To Cord, I can’t be anything else. I talk what they do not want to hear. It doesn’t bother me,” he says. He agrees that his statements have been taken offensively but puts a rider.
“What I say is the truth that many people talk in hushed tones. The only problem is that for me, I say it in broad daylight,” he defends himself.
Moses Kuria Career
After a short stint, he sought a job at Family Finance and Building Society but would disagree with the owner, Mr Titus Muya, after only four days over money. “During the six-month probation, I was to be paid Sh8,000 and after confirmation, he would pay me Sh6,000. I did not see any sense,” says Moses Kuria. That is how he landed at Standard Chartered Bank in 1995.
After seven years, his former boss at Standard Chartered, Mr Chris Wingfield, had moved to Al Rajhi, the largest Islamic bank in the world.
“I got a call from Mr Wingfield in 2002 and said he wanted me in Saudi Arabia. Apart from good perks, I also met my wife Joyce Njambi there,” he says.

I have forgiven Moses Kuria, he was entertaining his supporters – Raila
The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga has forgiven Gatundu MP Moses Kuria over assassination remarks against him.
Moses Kuria, who was appearing at the Milimani Law Courts on Friday over allegations of hate speech and incitement to violence, was allegedly caught on camera calling for assassination of the CORD leader following the IEBC stalemate that has seen the opposition hold demonstrations to push for the disbandment of the electoral body.
Raila said that he has forgiven the Gatundu South MP since he was only entertaining Jubilee supporters and a person with an intent to kill does not announce in public.
“I have forgiven Moses Kuria because someone who wants to kill does not announce,” said Odinga.
“He was just entertaining the people. Lord forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.”
Raila was speaking during the Requiem Mass of post-independence Minister Ngala Mwendwa at the AIC Church in Milimani.
Without Raila, Moses Kuria would have been a school dropout
Moses Kuria comes across as a man who holds the Luo community and Cord leader, Raila Odinga, in contempt, even hatred.
He has been cited in the past by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission for a post on his Facebook page that was deemed demeaning to the Luo. In fact, his current troubles with the police stem from utterances touching on alleged calls for Raila’s assassination.
But unknown to many of his supporters, it is Raila who interceded and helped Kuria to be readmitted to the University of Nairobi after he was suspended together with other student leaders.
A source close to Moses Kuria intimates that when the MP and his colleagues were ejected by the university’s senate, it is Raila who gave Moses Kuria some money and instructed the late Otieno Kajwang’ to represent the student leaders in court.
“I can confirm that Raila gave Moses Kuria Sh400 and paid Kajwang to represent the students in court.I can also confirm that on Saturday January 20, 1995, Kuria attended Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s first anniversary and slept in Raila’s Opoda Farm home in Bondo,” the source who did not wish to speak on record revealed.
Another source, who refused to be identified due to the sensitivity of this story, confirmed that it is true that lawyer Otieno Kajwang’ represented Moses Kuria in court for close to a year, until Justice Mwera threw out the case and ordered the university to re-admit Moses Kuria and his colleagues.
“Raila gave them Otieno Kajwang’ until the court ordered the university to re-admit Kuria and other student leaders back,” he said.
When contacted, Raila refused to comment on any matter touching on Moses Kuria
“I don’t want to speak about these things. I don’t want to speak about Moses Kuria,” the Cord leader said through one of his spokespersons.
Moses Kuria calls for ‘Raila’s assassination’
Controversial Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria allegedly wants the government to “assassinate” Cord leader Raila Odinga because he is a “threat to the nation”.
Moses Kuria made the remarks on Sunday at the thanksgiving rally of a vernacular station radio presenter held at the Safaricom indoor stadium, Kasarani.
A one and half minute video of the MP making the inciteful remarks immediately went viral on social media with Majority of Kenyans calling for his arrest.
“Nyumba ni murathikiriria? Nindiraheiruo wira nimukuona ta nguhota? Matige guitigira, Muthama, na Orengo na nyina moke othe. Ni mui gitumi ni kii? No matume kimudu, giuke na mucinga, Raila rii rithathi ya mutwe akue mauge ni nii. No emenyerere, ona bebe no arie, tutigutorio thinaine ni mundu umue. Muire raila ona bebe no arie na thii ihore na tuthii na no menda thayu moke tuarie tuikare wega IEBC yenda guthii ithii okoruo tii uguo mathii ma kiumaga ”
Loosely translated to…” My people, I was appointed to speak with these people. Do you think I will deliver? They shouldn’t fear in fact let Orengo, Muthama and their mothers come. They want to stage a gunman tasked to kill Raila and then blame it on me. But he should be careful because he can still bite the bullet. We won’t be troubled by one person forever. He can as well bite the bullet and we bury him next Monday. His protesters will throw stones for just one week and life continues. If it’s war they want it’s what they’ll get. Tell Raila he can bite the bullet but if they want peace they should come and let us negotiate ”.
Kuria is currently facing three charges of incitement to violence, hate speech and fanning ethnic hatred.
He is accused of linking the Gikomba terrorist attack, which killed 10 in 2015, to members of the Luo community.
Meanwhile, police are investigating Bahati MP Onesmus Kimani Ngunjiri utterances over the weekend that members of the “Luo community should leave Nakuru”.
The MP spoke to a crowd after Cord leader Raila Odinga held a political rally in Nakuru on Saturday.
“The MP will be summoned for grilling,” Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said in a text message on Sunday.
The utterances believed to be hate speech were recorded on a video and audio clip that went viral on social media.
