Netflix announced an expansion to its Kenyan fan base in 2016, however, the services were not as the fans expected. Distribution rights and syndication meant that local TV stations had the rights reserved to as many popular shows as possible even some owned by Netflix. Netflix was and is not permitted to access this content thus leaving a smaller catalog than what is available in the UK and US.
How to Bypass Netflix VPN Block
Netflix users get diffferent content in different countries even though all users go to the same website, netflix.com. What you can watch varies depending on your location. You might notice that when you travel abroad, you might not be able to load a video that you were watching before because it is not available in that region. Did you know that when you travel to places like Germany, Hong Kong, and Spain, you can’ watch original Netflix programs like House of Cards. You’ll be met by a dark window reading “Whoops, something went wrong…” – A streaming error message.
Initially, if a user was experiencing this type of restrictions, they would use a VPN to access Netflix content from other countries. If you lived in Spain but wanted to watch Netflix USA new releases, you just had to use your VPN software, get to a US server, then go to netflix.com and you could watch with no problems. Apparently this method has stopped working for many users.
In 2017 Netflix introduced a sophisticated VPN detector to counter the rising complains from movie copyright holders in particular, the reason was, the pricey streaming rights for big movies are sold separately in different countries. When customers bypass via a VPN to watch a movie that is not licensed in their country, the content creators do not receive payment for their viewing. This has been the pressure that forrced Netflix to prevent users from getting around region locks.
Netflix decided to block attempts to bypass the region-locked content using VPN services, this made it more difficult to access Netflix content from other countries.
The entertainmet company has stated that they want to provide global access to content so that their customers can watch all of the content wherever they are in the world. For this to be achieved a long process of negotiations with the copyright holders will have to happen, so it is unlikely to see Netflix global anytime soon.
You can still try to bypass their VPN detectors using quality VPN software.

Netflix Vs DSTV
DSTV has held an uncontested monopoly over Kenya’s paid TV market for many years. Alternative services have joined the market in recent years, but none with the features to rival DSTV. The launch of Netflix, an online streaming service that has been tipped to finally give DSTV some much-needed competition. Many believe that DSTV’s revenue will suffer following the introduction of Netflix in Kenya in 2016, and it’s easy to see why.
Due to lack of competition the broadcast service provider has retained high prices for their TV packages over the years. To gain access to all the channels and services DSTV has to offer, one must be subscribed to the Premium package, which goes for KSH 7900 a month. Only the higher value packages allow subscribers access to MultiChoice’s BoxOffice service, which offers the ability to rent movies online for 48 hours, through the decoder. The scheduled viewing and endless advertisements also feature that Netflix can easily out-do, and others have already tired
