A Polytechnic is an institution of higher education offering courses in many subjects, especially vocational or technical subjects. In Kenya we have a variety of polytechnics. Here are some of the best of the polytechnics in the country.
1.Kenya Coast National Polytechnic
Kenya Coast National Polytechnic formally Mombasa Technical Training Institute (Mombasa TTI) is located in the coast Mombasa Town. It was established in 1950 as a Technical High School. Upon the introduction of the 8-4-4 system of education, it was elevated to a middle level technical college in 1984 to provide technical training for the middle level man power for both the private and public sectors of the economy. The trainees in the institute are drawn from fresh secondary school leavers, graduates from other tertiary institutions, employees on part-time release basis and the informal (Jua Kali) sector.

2. Meru National Polytechnic
The Meru National Polytechnic was upgraded from Meru technical training institute in 2016 and has been in operation since 1956 when it was started by the Meru county council to train the youth in various practical skills. It was then known as Gitoro Technical. In 1964,the school was handed over to the regional education office and it became Meru Technical school,Offering courses of two year duration .The institution’s main mission is to provide TIVET for producing Dependable skilled human resource for commerce and industry.

3. Kabete Polytechnic Training College
Kabete Polytechnic Training College is located along waiyaki way adjacent to N-town past Kangemi. The institute mainly offers technical courses available in the departments such as:
Electrical and Electronics Engineering,Business,Computer,Building and Civil Engineering etc.

5.Kisii National Polytechnic
The Kisii National Polytechnic, formerly known as Gusii Institute of Technology was founded on 19th December 1971 during an all Abagusii leaders conference at the Gusii County Hall. The initiation of the institute was on a fund raising basis supported by the farmers, Kisii cooperative union, Gusii County Council, business community and the general public.
