Two Rivers mall finally opens doors to public as phase II set to begin
Two Rivers Mall opened on Tuesday and is set to be the largest shopping complex in Kenya on completion.
The Sh10 billion ($10 million) shopping mall is partly owned by Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed investment company Centum.
It will host more than 150 international and local retailers that include Turkish clothing line LC Waikiki, Nike, Chandarana, Nove Coffee Roaster and The Designers studio and jewellers Swarovski and Anmol.
French retail giant Carrefour is set to open its biggest store in Kenya at the mall with 10,000 square meters floor space.
Other clients at the mall include Deacons which has opened Mr Price Apparel, Mr Price Home, Bossini and Adidas stores there.
Two Rivers Mall – New Competition
Carrefour is expected to pose new competition especially to the market leader Nakumatt, which targets similar clientele to the French giant.
The retailer opened its maiden Kenyan outlet at The Hub in May last year.
The second phase of Two Rivers will include a five-star hotel and apartments. It begins before mid this year.
Centum has a controlling 58 per cent shareholding in Two Rivers.
Other shareholders include Avic International (38 per cent) and ICDC (14 per cent). Centum Group is set to move its offices to Two Rivers.
“Two Rivers Mall will create employment and is designed to offer world class shopping and hopefully stop people from going to foreign countries for shopping,” said Centum Group Chairman Chris Kirubi in a statement.
Two Rivers Mall – Affluent Neighbourhoods
Two Rivers Mall has an app to help shoppers pay for the parking and access other information on the complex.
It sits on 11 of 102-acres along Limuru Road, in close proximity to the affluent neighbourhoods of Runda, Nyari, Gigiri and Muthaiga.
Centum has in the past said mall was set to open in October but was delayed by an increase in the lettable space from 460,000 square feet to over 700,000 square feet at present.
The developer cited the scale of work and that some tenants were not ready. The delay hit returns for some investors and tenants who had hoped to cash in on the December holiday season.

President Kenyatta Uhuru Kenyatta Officially Launches Two Rivers
President Uhuru Kenyatta officially launched the Tow Rivers Mall on 18th Feb. 2017 where he commended Centum for the development saying the government is committed to reforms that ease doing business in the country.
He took cognisant of the fact that Kenyan banks contributed largely in financing the mall, citing that it is an indication that Kenya’s financial sector is showing maturity.
“This is the kind of Transformation that my administration is promoting,” said the President.
Set on 11 acres, with 67,000 sqm of gross lettable area, Two Rivers Mall is the largest mall in Sub-Saharan Africa outside of South Africa, with almost two hundred stores.
The mall boasts a diverse mix of both international and local brands, including brands that are new to the region such as global fashion retailer LC Waikiki, Swarovski, Platform whose merchandise includes brands such as Zara, Attibassi Coffee, and Magic Planet a leading indoor entertainment provider.
In addition, Two Rivers is also home to exciting new local brands such as Nove Coffee Roasters and The Designer Studio to name a few. The Two Rivers offering also includes established local brands such as Chandarana FoodPlus, as well as a dedicated banking hall.

Two Rivers Kenya in Runda, Nairobi, will be the largest shopping mall in East Africa when it opens in October. We, in collaboration with Nairobi City County, are undertaking a massive CSI project to rebuild Mathari Old Primary School. The project will see over 700 children access a better learning environment.
Old Mathari Primary School is scheduled to receive a tuition block with 36 new classrooms, a fully stocked library, administration offices & staff rooms, computer labs, Art labs, a social hall, a dining area, a kitchen, washroom facilities and sports & recreational facilities at the end of construction. To mark the beginning of construction, Two Rivers held a ground breaking ceremony on the 2nd of December 2014 at the school grounds and the project is currently underway.
